KEEPING KIDS A PART OF THE CURE
September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time for collectively remembering children that have passed, standing with families facing childhood cancer today, and rededicating ourselves to combating this terrible illness.
While much remains to be done, we’ve come far in the fight to understand, treat, and control pediatric cancer. Here at home, Women’s & Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program is leading the charge against childhood cancer with specialized care for Acadiana’s kids.
Led by Dr. Ammar Morad, the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program adheres to all nationally recognized standards and protocols for the treatment of childhood cancer, and boasts a 95 percent success rate. They’ve recently expanded the services to include, “Beads of Courage” and “Monkey In My Chair,” each designed to help our pediatric patients and their families and friends cope with and understand chronic illness.
Recently, Right Angle worked with the program’s child life specialist, Janie Eldridge, and some of the patients to create a look for their Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Report and other promotional materials. We used actual artwork from the patients in the design, and wrote stories around the new services. It’s truly a piece that speaks volumes.
We look forward to celebrating Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month by continuing our support of this program and all of the lives that it saves.
